Problem and solution

This client is a small business owner who was looking to upgrade his website from the Wix platform. Specifically he was hoping to remove the restrictions imposed on him by the platform in terms of design and of gated access to fundamental components. He was also hoping to improve the load time so as to provide a better UX for his potential customers.

The finished product is a working website that does the job: It empowers users to learn about his services while holding true to his chosen aesthetic. It also provides unrestricted design possibilities and unfettered access to essential components.

Process and methodology

Besides a handful of selected assets I was given creative freedom to explore the design and building of this site from the ground up. The bedrock of the motif I established through use of collated imagery around window-cleaning which is central to the client's business. These coupled with the swiping animation on load make it clear immediately that you're in the right place if you're looking for a window cleaner.

Over the course of development it became clear however that flexibility was important to the client, so we ultimately settled on a simple design that could be modified at will by the client in the future.

Results and impact

The new website served its purpose beautifully and has reached the goals set at the outset. It has provided customers with a point of contact (even attracting potential new customers within weeks of launch). It has equipped the client with greater creative freedom. At the last check the website had a load time of 1.6 seconds which was faster than the average web page load according to ToolTester.
